couples arrested for fotbll betting

KUANTAN: Police arrested a married couple suspected to have accepted World Cup football bets to the tune of RM50,000 at a flat in Kampung Raja, Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands police chief DSP Wan Zahari Wan Busu said Sunday the two gardeners, aged 38 and 39, were counting the bet amounts when the police raided their first-floor flat at 10pm on Saturday.

The couple prevented the police from entering the flat but they relented later and police recovered a computer, World Cup football match schedules, RM340 cash and gambling equipment," he said when contacted.

He said preliminary investigation showed that the couple had been accepting small amounts of bets for the ongoing World Cup football.

Wan Zahari said police also held a 50-year-old man, also suspected to be involved in football betting, on a second-floor flat during the raid.
