wooden shopped burned down


KLUANG: Thirty-five wooden shophouses, many of them almost a century old, were destroyed in an early morning fire at Pekan Layang Layang here.The shops were as old as the Kluang Railway Station, which began operations in 1915, said Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Fawzi Arshad. “Most of the wooden shops were around 90-years-old,” he said, adding that no one was injured.Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Hamid Suhari said they were notified by the police at 5.47am. At least 100 men were mobilised.“We managed to control the flames and bring the fire under control at 6.40am,” he said, adding that the blaze was put out at 7.30am.
