KUALA TERENGGANU: A thorough investigation will be conducted on a Rela officer’s rape of his niece.The victim, who is now 12 years old, had allegedly been raped since she was six.Terengganu Welfare, Community and Women’s Development Committee chairman Ashaari Idris said the case was disturbing as it involved a child who had been sexually abused by her relative over six years.He said he would ensure the investigation was expedited and the man charged before relinquishing his exco portfolio on July 1.The Langkap assemblyman had been asked to helm the Agriculture and Agro-Based Committee.He said the victim’s ordeal was made known only after a medical examination last week following her complaints of pain in her abdomen.Police detained the 56-year-old man last week after the girl’s parents made a report.He is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, and has been remanded for a week since his arrest last Thursday.
